FAQ

Where/how do I play?
You can download it here, free to play on Windows, Mac, and Linux.
How to Run the GameIs this real?
Not a joke: this is a fully playable visual novel "dating sim" based on Conclave (2024).
Is this really a dating sim?
Kind of, yes. But also, not exactly. It can be interpreted that way but for Dean Lawrence’s peace of mind, we call it a "managing" sim.
What’s it about?
Playing as Dean Thomas Cardinal Lawrence, you are tasked with preparing the Vatican for All Saints' Day. Immediately following the conclave, Dean Lawrence only has one week to ensure his Curia members are prepared for the festivities. The responsibility to manage his Curia members, and feelings for them, falls upon you.
Who can I "manage"?
Interactable characters include but are not limited to:
   • Joseph Tremblay
   • Pope Innocent XIV
   • Goffredo Tedesco
   • Joshua Adeyemi
   • Sister Agnes
   • Aldo Bellini
Is there NSFW?
Nope: they have vows of celibacy.
How did you make the game?
It was made using Ren'Py.
I encountered a bug, where can I report this?
Please submit your bug reports through this form!
How can I give real life money to the team that made the game?
While the game is entirely for free, if you'd like to support the creators on the team, please feel free to hunt down their individual ko-fis, commissions or other means of supporting through the links on this page!

TECHNICAL HELP

Q: Ray, I don't know how to open the game?Of course, Your Eminence. Generally, the steps are:

  • Download the game from itch.io. Choose the PC file if you’re using a PC running Windows or Linux, and choose the Mac file if you’re using a Mac.

A chibi of Thomas Cardinal Lawrence.
  • Unzip the downloaded folder. On Windows, right-click the zip file and select “Extract All…”

A chibi of Thomas Cardinal Lawrence.
  • Open the game:
On Windows, use the .exe file.
On Mac, use the .app file.
On Linux, run the .sh file.

Q: Ray, my "antivirus" says the game isn’t safe/isn’t allowing the game to run?The game is safe to play, Eminence. Antivirus software tends to read games that are made with Ren'Py as false positives. For Mac users, this link may help.Depending on your specific antivirus, you may need to:

  • White-list the game and its files/tell your antivirus to allow the game to run

  • Temporarily disable the firewall

If you're unsure of how to do these, please research your specific antivirus software.Q: Ray, my computer says there’s a file missing? If you have antivirus software installed, it may be preventing you from running the game. Please refer to the above question.Otherwise, try re-downloading the game on a stable internet connection.Q: Ray, I can’t run the game?If you have an antivirus software installed, it may be picking up the game as a false positive. Please refer to the above question on antivirus software. If you are on Windows, try running the program in compatibility mode.If that doesn’t work, follow this link and refer to the display section. Try updating your graphics drivers, and/or holding shift when opening the game in order to change the settings. Also described in the same link, under windows encoding problems, it may be due to the file path and system language.Q: Ray, I can’t figure out how to play the game on my mobile device or Chromebook?Unfortunately, Delectatio Morosa is unable to run on these devices. It is for Macs and PCs with Windows or Linux only.Q: Ray, I ran into a different problem than the ones above/none of those answers helped? As this game is made with Ren'Py, try searching “renpy” + the issue you're having. If you're unable to find a solution, send an ask here and include your OS (Windows, Linux, Mac) with a description of the problem, along with info on how you've tried to fix it.

WALKTHROUGH GUIDE

Having trouble downloading/opening the game?
Check this help guide!
In general the following apply:

  • Choices in Day 1 have no effect. Consider the Day 1 stat summary as the canonical feelings that Lawrence has for each character after the events of Conclave (2024).

  • Confessions are unlocked by reaching 5 hearts after completing all 3 character events

  • Bad ends are unlocked by reaching 0 hearts by Day 8 regardless of events completed

  • Special endings are completed by either getting all bad ends in one run or getting all good ends for all characters, and canon end for Benítez, in one run

BISHOP JOSHUA ADEYEMI

Former Cardinal Major Penitentiary

Event 1
Ah! Dean Lawrence, Your Eminence!
A man like you was looking for little old me?  +
Oh, great. What did you do this time?  0
I'm actually quite busy just now...  -
(Regardless of dialogue)
Deflect.  ++
Answer honestly.  +, -BENÍTEZ
Deny.  0
(Regardless of dialogue)
Defend the Pope.  0
Move past it.  -
...parades around as though they are the second coming of Christ makes me raise an eyebrow.
'Second Coming of Christ'?  0
Jealousy, Joshua?  +
I'm not jealous! I just find it hard to believe such a man has never had aspirations. It's insulting to the rest of us to act above it all.
Spare him his dignity.  ++
You're projecting.  +++
Relent.  +
Event 2
I have to meet with Secretary Bellini in 15 minutes and I need someone to deliver this memo for me...
Accept the Memo.  +AGNES, +BELLINI
Decline the Memo.  -AGNES, -BELLINI
Not as such, I'm afraid. Just gossip. You know how it is.
Gossip, Joshua? Oh, do tell.  0
Oh, you're better than that.  -
The whole Convent has it out for me. And that's why my clothes are too starched and my dinners inedible.
(Sarcastically) No way! That's crazy.  -
Are you stupid?  0
(From "(Sarcastically) No way! That's crazy.") Adeyemi looks a little miserable at that, and Lawrence immediately feels guilty.
Apologize.  +
Ignore it.  0
...Not one.
Give it to him gently.  +
Give it to him hard.  ++
You mean Shanumi? Is that what this is about?
Sister Shanumi.  +AGNES
Who else could it possibly be about?  0
Are you willfully being obtuse?  -
Lawrence considers how best to word things...
Consider her perspective!  +
We will never understand her.  +, +AGNES
You just don't get it.  -, ends event early
I'm unsure how to make amends.
(If memo was taken) Take this memo to Sister Agnes.  ++
Pray.  0
Be better.  +
Event 3
Oh, I'm not sure... I am not much for doing women's work...
Excuse me?  +, +BENÍTEZ
Well... We're doing it so....  ++
Let Pope Innocent handle it.  -BENÍTEZ
He washes his hands and goes directly into helping Sister Lucia knead, much to the delight of the others in the kitchen.
Tease Adeyemi.  +
Prove a point.  -
Adeyemi is close enough for Lawrence to smell his intoxicating cologne over the fragrant vanilla of the baking. The pair of them seem in sync, cleaning in time with one another.
Don't quit your day job.  -, -BENÍTEZ
If I had a partner, I'd want them to be like you.  +
You smell sooooo good, Josh.  ++
Confession
Good End: Absolve him.
Canon End: Let God absolve him.

BISHOP JOSEPH TREMBLAY

Former Chamberlain of the Holy See

Event 1
How are you feeling, Your Eminence? Are you excited for the upcoming celebration?
Excited?  0
Most definitely.  0
No.  0
Lawrence approaches Tremblay, still deep in prayer, and considers a way to get his attention.
Clear your throat.  0
Shake him.  +
Speak loudly.  0
What did you want from me?
Your zucchetto is crooked.  +
I need you to forgive me, Joe.  ++
Get over it already. Your behavior was intolerable.  -
(From "Your zucchetto is crooked.") I feel fine, I appreciate your concern but it'll take more than dashed hopes to break my spirit and my faith in God.
Press him.  0
Leave him be.  0
(From "I need you to forgive me, Joe.") I appreciate your concern. And I'm very grateful you were retained as Dean by Pope Innocent.
Press him.  +
Leave him be.  0
(Should Bishop Tremblay help out?)
Of course!  ++
Oh, no?  +
You're right, never mind.  -
Event 2
(Take the birdseed?)
Yes.  +
No.  -
Good morning/afternoon/evening, Dean Lawrence
Tell him how perfect and distinguished his hair is, as usual.  +
Grab his hand and ask how he's doing.  ++
So... Come around here often? ;)  -
(From "Tell him how perfect and distinguished his hair is, as usual.") I find myself less busy and yet more overworked now than when I was Camerlengo only weeks ago.
Press further.  0
Move on.  0
(From "Grab his hand and ask how he's doing.") . . . Anyway. What did you want from me?
Press further.  -
Move on.  0
(From "So... Come around here often? ;)") . . . Anyway. What did you want from me?
Attempt to explain the joke.  +
Move on.  0
Wait, I see it. It's a small blackbird. It looks like it's gotten caught between two close branches.
Have Tremblay reach in and save it.  +
Have Tremblay hold the branches for you.  -
(If birdseed was taken) It's probably hungry. . .
Feed it.  0
Let Tremblay feed it.  +
Do nothing.  0
Event 3
What in God's name do you want, Thomas?! You startled me.
Are you busy right now?  +
I need your help.  0
He notices Tremblay is particularly quiet, near the back of the group.
Give him a wink and encourage him to talk.  +
Say nothing.  0
Wait until he opens his mouth to say something, then cut him off.  -
At what?
Catching my attention.  +
Inspiring children to listen.  +
Nothing... Nevermind.  -
He points to a little girl wearing a graphic t-shirt and a pair of dirty jeans. She looks no older than eight or nine. She is, in fact, eating completely by herself.
Nod sadly, and lament about what assholes children can be to one another.  -
Encourage him to go talk to her.  +
Drag him over by his wrist and begin talking to her.  ++
Confession
Good End: I could never forget you, Joe
Canon End: You will never be forgotten, Joe

SISTER AGNES

Head of the Mater Ecclesiae Convent

Agnes's hearts can be affected by other characters' events (Adeyemi).Event 1
Sister Agnes rattles off information to the point that Lawrence becomes stressed from hearing it.
Cut her off.  -
Allow her to finish.  +
He thinks of what to say...
What's going on in that beautiful mind of yours?  ++
Please let me take your burden.  +
You're too pretty to be stuck with this  0
Sister Agnes pulls a face at this. Lawrence longs to connect with her in some way.
I'm scared too.  ++
You're not weak, Agnes.  +++
...I want you.  +
Event 2
She adjusts her grip on the bag to give him a wave.
Say a regular, normal greeting that a normal person would say.  0
Try to flirt.  +
(From "Try to flirt.") (Are you sure?)
Yes.  0
No, wait-  0
Lawrence can tell she is not saying everything.
Press her.  +
Leave it be.  +
Move on.  -
[(From "Press her" / "Leave it be") Did Pope Innocent put you up to this?]
He did.  -
I'm just doing my job.  0
I just... care about you.  +
It looks cumbersome to carry...
Offer to carry it for her.  +
Say nothing. #Feminist  0
I don't think I would ever be able to do that. I'd always fear I'd be let down again, and it would be my own fault.
I'm a glutton for punishment.  +
There's no other option.  0
I guess I'm an optimist.  -
Event 3
Sister Agnes nods, propping the box into the crook of her arm to open the side gate they will be leaving the Vatican by.
Offer to help her carry the box.  +
Say nothing #Feminism.  0
The man stares back at Sister Agnes.
Back her up.  +
She doesn't need my help.  0
Drag them away.  -
(Which room does Lawrence enter?)
(The rooms can be entered in any order with no effect on the outcome.)
(From "Enter First Room") Thank you for coming, Sisters. Rome is starting to get chilly this time of year.
Help pass out blankets.  +
Stay in the back.  0, - if third time doing nothing
(From "Enter Second Room") A much better morning/afternoon/evening now that you are here!
Offer to hold the child.  ++
Give the woman a blanket.  +
Do Nothing.  0, - if third time doing nothing
(From "Enter Third Room") We would not miss you ladies for anything. Come, find something fashionable and warm - plenty of coats and jackets left.
Hold up coats for the girls to try on.  +
Do nothing.  0, - if third time doing nothing
You've seen today the level of personability I have with my Sisters. I am motherly, and well respected... But if there isn't Curia gossip or job duties to discuss, I find they rarely come talk to me at all.
Two way street, Aggie dear.  +
Perhaps that's for the best.  -
Confession
Good End: Then don't. Let the two of us never be alone again.
Canon End: The Curia loves you, Agnes.

GOFFREDO CARDINAL TEDESCO

Patriarch of Venice

Event 1
Cardinal Lawrence!
Act like you don’t hear him.  0
Smile, wave, and try to walk away really fast.  +
Hello, Goffredo.  0
If Lawrence doesn’t think fast he’s going to get stuck in a death spiral of vaguely hostile pleasantries.
Actually pleasantries are fine.  0
Remind him that he owes you.  +
Try to seem much more busy and important than him.  -
(If “Actually pleasantries are fine”)
Press Him  +
Leave Him Be  0
(If “Remind him that he owes you”)
Press Him  +
Leave Him Be  -
Did they find anything worthwhile, or is it just another fancy house owned by our delightful friend Caligula?
Be nice. You’re also an egomaniac who lives in a nice house.  +
Isn’t Nero the one you should be mad at  ++
Heavy sigh  -
Tommaso?
There’s a possibility  +
Don’t get your hopes up  -
Lying Nope, no bones here!  --
But I know you’re smart enough to understand why this is important to Venice… to me?
Ugh, fine you nerd.  +
You don’t own Saint Mark  -
Event 2
Look at O’Malley, silently pleading with him to make up a reason to get you out of here?
Yes. Help. Pleasepleaseplease. Help.  +
Refrain.  -
That’s a different story.
Intervene  +
Stay silent  -
He almost sounds contrite. Almost.
Lying is a sin.  -
Be practical here  +
Lightly touch Tedesco’s shoulder?
Yes  +
No  -
Does Lawrence care?
No  0
No, but he’s better at faking it.  +
Tedesco gives Lawrence a pathetic, expectant look.
Choose not to address it  -
Oh hell no.  +
No?
Don’t ever pull a stunt like that again  -
Take it out on me instead.  +
Promise to help him?
Sure.  +
Nope, it’s Tedesco’s turn to squirm.  -
Event 3
I’m sure they reported it to you seconds after I left.
I’m not spending every waking minute scheming against you  -
I may have heard something.  +
(If selected “I may have heard something”)
Would I be able to stop you?  -
Why are you suddenly giving me the chance to stop you?  +
Tedesco has never been fond of the pagan Romans as people, but he’s always been counted on to take pride in the long history of the Italian peninsula, at least.
Do you think a conclave would have fixed them?  -
You used to be proud of living in the same city as them  +
‘Why am I so?’ Go on. Finish your question.
Why are you being such an asshole right now?  -
Why are you still here? What do you need from me?  +
Why do you look like someone made vaping illegal?  ++
Confession
Good End: But you know you aren’t alone
Canon End: But you aren’t alone

ALDO CARDINAL BELLINI

Secretary of State

Bellini's hearts can be affected by a choice in Adeyemi event 2.Event 1
Oh, don't ask me! I'm just in charge of writing the damn thing.
Then why are you here?  -
You have no opinion?  +
It has never felt that way with Bellini before, and Lawrence feels a slight pang in his chest at the realization.
I liked the old Aldo.  ++
Why are you doing this?  -
Change can be hard.  +
(From "I liked the old Aldo" or "Why are you doing this?") Greedy, prideful, hateful, and angry. I didn't think I was that person at my core. And that shook me enough to know I need to fix that.
Tease him.  +
Let him finish.  0
I think...
Denial is a river.  +
Let him go.  -
You've lost the plot, babe.  ++
Event 2Our new Pope brings about much hope, yes? But until now nobody knew who he was. So... like... that.
Cheap shot.  +, +BENÍTEZ
Tease him.  +
Nod and move on.  0
Nobody knows what you're talking about, you idiot.  -
As he reached further still, Lawrence realized how closely they'd become intertwined.
Take him right there.  +
Lurch back.  0
I know whatever work I put in for Pope Innocent won't be good enough. Just this past week he asked me to rewrite his first official statement as Pope five times.
Defend Innocent.  +BENÍTEZ
That's your job!  0
Any time I try, he always makes the subject about the papacy or my role again.
Are you f****** stupid?  ++
A tough pill to swallow, jealousy  +
Just do your job.  -
(From "A tough pill to swallow, jealousy") It's just hard to navigate everything on my own now. I never needed to in the past, so I suppose I've never learned how.
As long as I'm alive, you aren't on your own.  ++
I'm sorry I made you feel that way.  0
Event 3I'm on my way to a meeting with Pope Innocent, and I would greatly appreciate your support.
How could I ever deny you?  +
... Ummm.... I'm busy?  0
You need my help for a meeting?  -
And thank the Lord for that, Amen.
You can handle 200 diplomats on Easter, but fear 46 on All Saints' Day?  +
(If Bellini hearts > 3) Why are you nervous, Aldo?  ++
Say nothing.  0
Of course I have! The Pope sets the tone for the Papacy, and we must all strive to match that.
We really don't.  0
Aldo, I know you're grieving...  +
Oh! Your Holiness, I-
Let him suffer, and play along.  -, -BENÍTEZ
He's just teasing you.  +
Yes, Your Holiness, circus. The spectacle of another tenure of Bellini as Secretary of State for the Holy See. I'd best settle in to watch the schism that follows.
Defend Bellini's honor.  +
Say nothing and hope he goes away.  +BENÍTEZ
Confession
Good End: Forbidden doesn't mean unspoken.
Canon End: Desire is a very human affliction.

POPE INNOCENT XIV

The Holy Father

Innocent's hearts may be affected by choices in other character events.Event 1
How unhappy would you be if I said that there was more?
I’d do anything for you.  0
There’s always something.  0
Please monastery-zone me.  0
Lawrence considers whether to investigate this.
Say nothing.  0
I tend to keep my phone on silent, for what it’s worth  -
Are you needed elsewhere?  +
I do find it overwhelming, though… I seem to take everything people say to heart.
Anonymity can lead to cruelty.  -
I think they call that “too much information.” Maybe.  ++
God gave us free will.  +
(If selected “Anonymity can lead to cruelty.”)
Press Him  +
Leave Him Be  0
(If selected “I think they call that “too much information.” Maybe.”
Press Him  +
Leave Him Be  -
Yes, I-
Have I missed something?  +
What can I do to help?  0
It’s hard to even tell if this is a significant argument that many people are having, or if it’s just a blip.
Let’s make this someone else’s problem  ++
Let’s make it my problem  +
Let’s keep this as your problem  -
If time of day is evening: Lawrence isn’t sure this won’t be a problem for Pope Innocent, either, but it’s probably better to do something rather than nothing.
Great, that will be all for now.  0
Let me take on this burden for you.  +
Event 2
Your Eminence?
There’s never enough coffee for weeks like this.  +
Nothing could stop us from having meetings at the turtle pond.  ++
Sorry, there’s so much happening that I’m distracted.  0
(If selected “Nothing could stop us from having meetings at the turtle pond”)
Press Further  0
Redirect  +
It feels like a hard stop to the conversation, even though Lawrence isn’t sure why.
Press Further  -
Let him gather his thoughts  +
It’s strange that people live this way now, isn’t it?
Make a joke  +
Let him gather his thoughts  0
I feel better but also somehow worse for stepping away.
Glad I barely know how to use a copier then  -
Thank God we don’t have to do Ray’s job.  +
The world is so unstable, there’s no time for me to fail in this.
You aren’t failing  -
We can’t change the past  +
(If you have yoga mat in inventory)
Offer him the yoga mat?
No way.  0
What the hell, sure.  +
I am grateful.
I’m glad to be of service, Your Holiness.  0
Sometimes the cat memes are funny.  +
Event 3
O’Malley did a thorough job, as usual.
Press him  +
Leave it be  -
Apparently our decorations for All Saints are unacceptably sparse.
Everyone’s a critic  -
I thought a spectacle would be tacky after recent events  ++
The saints probably care more about prayers than decor.  +
Innocent looks lost in thought for a short moment.
Press him?  +
Leave him be.  -
Apparently a significant amount of people think I’m cute for doing that.
Maybe more people will check out your homily after that.  +
I really think you’re blowing this out of proportion.  -
You should look for the things you can control.  0
Confession (always happens on Day 7)
Canon End: God will forgive you
Good End: God will help you forgive yourself
Why isn't the Good End option displaying?
Pope Innocent requires all other characters to reach their Canon Endings in the same run for this to unlock. Because his confession only occurs on the night before All Saints' Day, it doesn't matter how early or late you complete Innocent's events. By the time he confesses, you should have been able to go through everyone else's events too.
